SF’s First Women’s Sports Bar, “Rikki’s,” Opens in The Castro (June 11th)
The “Coming Soon” signs should be coming down today!
Rikki’s, San Francisco’s first bar focused entirely on women’s sports, opens to the public on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at 3:30 p.m. at 2223 Market Street in the Castro.
Co-founded by Danielle Thoe and Sara Yergovich, the bar is named in honor of Rikki Streicher, a gay San Francisco athlete and bar owner who helped shape the city’s LGBTQ+ nightlife and sports scenes. The bar is located on the same block as the gay sports bar, Hi-Tops.
A Space for Women’s Sports Fans
Rikki’s features 15 TVs, a full kitchen, and a full liquor license, and is designed to regularly feature women’s sports programming. The opening coincides with a rise in interest in professional women’s sports – especially in the Bay Area – including the launch of Bay FC, the Bay Area’s first NWSL team, and the debut of the Golden State Valkyries in the WNBA.
Since 2023 at least six women’s sports bars have opened in the U.S. with more in the works.

Community-Supported and Queer-Founded
Over 80 investors contributed through a WeFunder campaign to help launch Rikki’s. Both founders are active in LGBTQ+ sports nonprofits in San Francisco. The bar will offer both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and with a full kitchen, it will be open to guests of all ages. Rikki’s aims to be a gathering place for fans of women’s sports and the broader community interested in inclusive, locally focused sports culture.
