After closing in 2020, the original Loard’s Ice Cream shop has quietly reopened in Oakland’s Upper Dimond neighborhood. Located at 2825 MacArthur Blvd., the store held a soft reopening on June 1 in the same shopping plaza at MacArthur and Coolidge. The location had remained shuttered for several years following the pandemic, with additional delays due to filming for the upcoming 2025 film Freaky Tales, which used the space as a set.

Founded in 1950, Loard’s is known for its old-fashioned ice cream recipes and wide variety of flavors. The MacArthur Blvd. shop is considered the chain’s flagship and now offers more than 45 flavors, including options like lemon chiffon, butter brickle, burgundy cherry, and black raspberry marble.  This summer marks Loard’s 75th anniversary, making the reopening especially timely for longtime fans.

In addition to the ice cream menu, the reopened shop will soon feature a new sandwich counter called WesLo’s. The expanded offering includes both classic deli options and more creative sandwiches made with ingredients like koji ham and spicy kimchi spread. Store hours are 12–7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 12–8 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
